The In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) Program at Reproductive Associates of Delaware

The IVF Team Approach

With professional colleagues throughout the world, the IVF team at Reproductive Associates offers unique perspectives on IVF care. Although Zygotewe are one of the newest IVF Programs in the country, we can also boast about the use of the newest and latest state-of-the-art techniques. All prospective IVF patients are discussed at a weekly team meeting, and our couples are given a very clear evaluation and treatment plan for moving forward with IVF. For every couple contemplating IVF, a complete appraisal of the time commitments and costs are carefully explained. Our detailed informational consent forms provide a step-by-step guide of what to anticipate. With IVF, our goals are to provide clear information and high quality care.

Success from the "Starting Gate"

Since July, 1997, and through March, 1999, 46 patients have entered our IVF program. We are proud to report 25 pregnancies since July, 1997 through our IVF program. All pregnancies were achieved following either the first or second egg retrieval. In 1998, our clinical pregnancy rate per retrieval was 46%. Our results thus far indicate that for those patients who enter our IVF program, the cumulative chance for achieving a pregnancy approaches 60-70%.

Office-Based IVF: Comforting and Comfortable

Reproductive Associates offers Delaware's first and only full service office-based IVF program. All pre-IVF evaluation, ultrasounds, blood studies, and IVF procedures are carried out in a safe and high quality environment. Our diagnostic laboratories are CLIA-certified for high complexity testing, and our IVF laboratory and adjacent procedure room is maintained as a sterile, environmentally-controlled facility. Physician anesthesiologists are present to provide anesthesia for all egg retrieval procedures. Through intravenous conscious sedation, the egg retrieval procedure is extremely safe and pain-free.

State-of-the-art Techniques in our IVF Program

Couples often inquire at Reproductive Associates about the following newer IVF techniques: 1) ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection).Blastocyst Through the fine skills of embryologist Marc Portmann, ICSI has been an extremely important option for many of our couples with the diagnosis of severe male factor. Many of our healthy, ongoing pregnancies have occurred following ICSI. 2) Embryo Freezing. So far, 3 of our ongoing pregnancies have occurred following embryo freezing. This is an important issue that we discuss at length with our patients. 3) Blastocyst Cultures. To date, we have one healthy pregnancy resulting from a transferred blastocyst. This technology is changing rapidly, and we are now devoting a major effort towards offering blastocyst culture. We will be devoting a separate Web page to this endeavor, so please stay tuned to www.blastocyst.com for ongoing developments related to this endeavor.
